With a novel way to monitor biosignals using tiny electrodes reaching just a hair’s width into the wearer’s skin, WearOptimo is working towards helping revolutionise healthcare. But right now its focus is on elite sports. The company was founded in 2018 by Professor Mark Kendall, who studied rocketry before becoming “an accidental biomedical engineer” at Oxford University and proceeding along a 27-year-path of highly-awarded invention.
WearOptimo’s CEO and Founder Professor Mark Kendall tells Brent Balinski from AuManufacturing why he chose the life of an inventor over a seemingly ‘cruisier’ life in academia.
“It chooses you as much as you choose it. It’s a bit of a calling. But if you want to do it, then you need to be an extreme athlete as well. You need to be able to handle it.”
In this fascinating 30-minute podcast episode, Mark talks about his own career journey in bringing health-tech products to market.
He discusses why Brisbane is the right place to produce Microwearables, and how WearOptimo’s devices can avoid the limitations of current generation surface-based wearables.
