Emeritus Professor Michael Cardew-Hall PhD, BSc(Hons), CEng, FIMechE, FIEAust is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and Institution of Engineers Australia. Prior to joining Australian National University (ANU) in 1993, he held technical and management positions with GEC and Rolls-Royce Aero Engines in the UK. Michael has also been an active researcher, with much of his work carried out in collaboration with industry partners. At ANU his other previous roles include Head of ANU’s Department of Engineering, Deputy Dean, and Interim Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science. He also served as interim Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) at University of Canberra.
Following 11 years at ANU as Pro-Vice Chancellor-Innovation, Michael has an ongoing interest in technology transfer, commercialisation and industrial policy and has been involved in multiple spinoff start-up companies. He was previously Chair of ANU Connect Ventures (ANUCV), a successful pre-seed venture capital fund associated with the ANU. He has served as a Director of the Australian Solar Institute, Lithicon AS, Simile Systems, Cicada Innovations, CBRIN Ltd and is currently Chair and General Partner at Activate Capital and on the Board of Flaim Pty Ltd and the REACH Trailblazer at Deakin University.
