In conversation with Olympia Kwitowski on 4BC

With lots of milestones happening locally and globally, there was no shortage of topics for conversation when founder and CEO Professor Mark Kendall appeared on 4BC Weekend Breakfast with Olympia Kwitowski.

In a wide-ranging chat, the pair explored a wealth of topics that underscore the global recognition and potential of our Microwearable technology, from the initial inspiration for its development to the importance of hydration in health and the patent we’ve been granted in the US for our hydration sensor.

One particular focus was on the current and potential future uses of the technology, with Mark telling Olympia (edited):

“It doesn’t matter who you talk to, from elite athletes to people in aged care, hydration is a fundamental ingredient for nutrition. And, as the weather’s getting hotter, it’s becoming even more important.

“One of our investors, F1 champion Mark Webber, talks openly about when he crashed his car at the Monaco Grand Prix in 2002, where the post-race analysis pointed to the reason as being that he was dehydrated and his brain function was off. So there are multiple opportunities there, where we start with elite sports and then move onto the mining sector as well as the military and aged care.

“Beyond that, our platform is deployable in so many areas. We’re talking about detecting the early onset of a heart attack through monitoring of a key biomarker that gives you a read on that before you even know the heart attack’s taking place. That will save so many lives.

“Then there’s sepsis, which is one of the biggest killers on the planet. Our technology offers ways to detect that happening before you even know it’s really taking place, opening up potential for rapid intervention.”
